Stella Hwaeun Song

Violinist & Artistic Director

At the age of 16, violinist Stella Hwaeun Song left South Korea to study under Professors Michael Gaiser and Valery Gradow at the Robert Schumann Musikhochschule in Düsseldorf, Germany, where she earned her Doctorate in Violin Performance as head of her class.

Recognized for her warm tone and expressive depth, she received a special prize at the Smoltz Bickenbach Competition in Germany.

She has performed widely across Europe as a soloist and chamber musician, appearing with the George Enescu Philharmonic (Romania), Brno Orchestra (Czech Republic), and at festivals in Becksteinhaus (Germany), Luxembourg, and Lugano (Switzerland).

Her orchestral experience includes performances with the Düsseldorf Symphony, Bochum Symphony, and Gürzenich Orchestra Köln.

After returning to Korea in 2010, she joined the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra and appeared regularly as a soloist at major venues including the Seoul Arts Center, Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, and Kumho Art Hall. She also served as a lecturer at Jeju National University and Chongshin University, contributing to the next generation of violinists through her teaching.

Now based in Ontario, Canada, Stella is the Founder and Director of the York Region Youth Orchestra, a registered charity devoted to nurturing young musicians and enriching the cultural life of the community. Through her leadership and mentorship, she continues to inspire the next generation while dedicating her artistry to the growth of music and culture in her community.
